What is a 3D product configurator?

A 3D product configurator is an interactive tool that allows customers to assemble their product online. They choose from options such as colour, material, dimensions or components and immediately see in 3D what their chosen variant looks like. The configurator works in the browser without an app and shows real-time changes. This gives customers control over their purchase and helps them better understand what they're getting.

How can 3D visualisation increase my online sales?

Webshops with 3D see 94% higher conversion rates (Shopify). Customers zoom, rotate, and inspect details as if they're holding the product. They see what they're getting, so doubt disappears. This builds familiarity with your brand and products.

Does augmented reality work on all devices?

AR works on most smartphones without an app. iOS from version 12 and Android from version 8 support AR directly in the browser. Customers tap the AR button and place the product in their space. Older devices show the regular 3D viewer instead.

What's the difference between a 3D viewer and a configurator?

A 3D viewer shows one product that you can rotate, zoom in and view from all angles. It's perfect for products without variants. A configurator goes further: customers can actively choose from options (colour, material, components) and see the result instantly in 3D. Ideal for products with multiple variants like furniture, clothing or custom products.

How long does it take to create a 3D model?

For a simple product, we estimate 1-2 weeks from delivery to live. This includes creating the 3D model, applying textures and materials, and testing in the viewer. For more complex products or configurators, it can take 3-6 weeks. The lead time also depends on the quality of the source material you provide (CAD files, photos, technical drawings).

Questions about Portal

What is Portal?

Portal is our self-service platform for 3D model hosting. You upload your 3D model, get an embed code, and paste it on your website. You can track how your models perform with real analytics. No developers needed.

What types of models work with Portal?

Portal is for static 3D models. Perfect for product presentation, 3D viewing and AR experiences. Not suitable for configurators with colour variants or dynamic product options. For products with variants, contact us about our configurator solutions.

What file formats can I upload?

Portal accepts GLB files only. GLB is the binary version of glTF, the standard format for 3D on the web. Most 3D software can export to GLB.

Is there a maximum file size?

Yes, the maximum file size is 100MB per model. For optimal loading speed, we recommend keeping models under 20MB when possible.

How many models can I host?

The Portal subscription includes up to 25 models. Need more? Contact us for custom pricing.

How quickly are statistics updated?

Statistics are processed near-realtime. View counts and analytics are updated within 5 minutes.

Where are my models hosted?

Your models are hosted on Amazon S3 with CloudFront CDN in Frankfurt, Germany. This ensures fast loading times across Europe with data storage in the EU.

Who can see my models?

Your models are accessible via your embed code on your website and via the direct link if someone knows it. Models are not publicly listed or searchable.

Does Portal work with my webshop platform?

Yes. The embed code works on any website: Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, or any custom platform. If you can paste HTML, you can use Portal.

What if I don't have a 3D model yet?

We can create 3D models for you. Simple product models start at €50. Contact us with photos and specifications of your product.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

You remain the owner of your 3D models. You can download and take them with you. Only the hosting and statistics will stop working at the end of your billing period.
